How to use these at the table
These four packs are deliberately chosen to cover the things a new or returning DM runs out of first. None of them need an account, and none are watermarked.
The battlemaps
A hundred maps is more than a year of weekly play if you use them properly, which means reusing locations rather than finding a new map for every encounter. They arrive gridless, so add a grid at whatever scale your table needs with the grid overlay tool: 70 pixels per square for Roll20, 100 for Foundry VTT, 300 for one-inch print squares. If a map is larger than a sheet of paper, grid it first and then tile it with the map splitter so the lines stay continuous across the join.
The paper minis
Print on 200gsm to 250gsm cardstock, score the fold rather than creasing it by hand, and they will survive a campaign. Lighter paper curls within a session. Fifty figures is enough for the common encounters, and the practical trick is to print a standing library of the creatures you use repeatedly rather than printing per session. The monster cards
Statblock cards solve a specific problem: flipping through a book mid-combat kills pace. Twenty cards covers the creatures a low-level party meets most. Print them double-sided if your printer supports duplex, and keep them in initiative order once the fight starts. The initiative tracker handles turn order and hit points if you would rather not track it on paper, and using monster stat cards covers running them well.
The VTT tokens
Transparent PNGs sized for virtual tabletops, so they drop straight into Roll20 or Foundry without cropping. If you want tokens for creatures or NPCs not in the pack, the token maker turns any portrait into a circular transparent token at the right size, entirely in your browser. Adding custom tokens covers the import step for each platform.
Where the free packs sit
Each pack lives on a public Patreon post, and most of those posts carry a PDF that points to the matching Etsy listing for the download password. That is how the free packs stay free: they are a sample of the paid libraries, not a separate thing. If the free maps are useful and you want the rest, the full catalogue is on the MakeMythic Etsy shop. If you would rather not spend anything, the tools are free permanently and always will be.
FAQ
Are these DnD resources really free?
Yes. Each pack is on a public Patreon post and needs no paid membership. Most posts include a PDF pointing to the matching Etsy listing for the download password, which is how the packs stay free: they are a sample of the paid libraries rather than a separate product.
Do I need an account to download them?
No account on this site, and no paid Patreon tier. The packs are not watermarked and carry no time limit.
Can I use these battlemaps in Roll20 and Foundry VTT?
Yes. They are standard image files and arrive gridless, so they work on any virtual tabletop. Add a grid at your platform’s scale with the grid overlay tool: 70 pixels per square for Roll20, 100 for Foundry VTT, 300 for one-inch print squares.
What paper should I print the paper minis on?
200gsm to 250gsm cardstock. Score the fold rather than creasing by hand and they will last a campaign. Anything lighter than about 160gsm curls within a single session.
What size are the character sprites, and what can I use them in?
They are native 1:1 pixel art at roughly 32x32 scale, drawn on a fixed 60 x 48 canvas so every character and frame lines up without per-sprite offsets. The pack ships individual PNG frames and pre-assembled sprite sheets, so they drop straight into Godot, Unity, GameMaker or Aseprite, and the idle frames work as VTT tokens. Set texture filtering to nearest, or they will look blurry.
Can I use these in a game I stream or charge for?
They are for use at your own table, including a streamed or recorded game. What they are not licensed for is redistribution, resale, or bundling into another product. If you need broader rights, ask before you publish.
What is the catch?
There is no catch on the packs themselves. They exist because the free tools and free assets are how people find the MakeMythic Etsy shop, and a DM who gets real use out of a hundred free maps is more likely to buy the rest. The tools on this site are free permanently and have no upsell attached.
